Alocasia Okinawa Silver is the variegated form of Alocasia Odora. This beautiful Elephant Ear plant offers unique foliage with varying mixes of cream, white and green hues. Variegation can be compared to the color mix found on various Albo species. Unlike other Alocasia, Okinawa Silver has a solid reputation for being fairly easy-going and undemanding, making it a top contender on a lot of hobbyists's wishlist. Alocasia Okinawa Silver is fairly tolerant of most standard household conditions. This variegated plant will appreciate bright, indirect lighting and a well-draining soil or growing medium as a baseline. Alocasia are relatively heavy root feeders, especially during grow season, and should be provided with a source of quality nutrition every few weeks. This family of plants are also excellent at communicating their needs via their appearance and growth rate. As with all tropical plants, Alocasia Okinawa Silver will appreciate warmer weather and increased humidity levels. They are not frost tolerant and should be brought inside during cooler months. An important note to take away is this rare house plant's sensitivity to transport. Frequent repotting and/or movement should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. Even so, Alocasia will show stress signs when disrupted but should bounce back fairly quick provided the mother plant is well cared for and healthy.

It's important to not overwater Alocasia and erring on the side of underwatering is better between the two. Humidity can be increased via use of a humidifier or pebble tray. Alternatively, placing your plant near a planted aquarium will help as well! Lack of humidity may cause brown edges and drying leaves. This can result in increased stress levels and will make Alocasia more susceptible to illness, disease and pests. It should be noted that Alocasia cannot be propagated via cuttings and must be propagated via bulbs produced at the base of the mother plant. A rare and beautiful house plant, Alocasia plants are mildly toxic and care should be taken if being placed in a home with household pets or children.
