Aponogeton Boivinianus is a rather large aquarium plant that is suitable for larger planted aquarium tanks. It is a bulb-type aquatic plant meaning that the bulb should be planted directly into planted aquarium substrate with the leaves exposed. Once established, this Aponogeton will start to develop large leaves up to 30” long! It’s older leaves will form a deep dark green coloration while younger leaves will mainly feature light green and sometimes brown hues until the plant is fully grown.
We recommend planting Aponogeton Boivinianus in nutrient-rich planted aquarium substrate such as Tropica Aquarium Soil or Aquario Neo Soil since this aquarium plant requires much more root fertilization than other aquatic plants. It is not uncommon for this Aponogeton to lose all it’s leaves while establishing itself in a new planted tank environment. However, it will quickly recover as long as the plant is provided with optimal conditions. In addition, it can thrive in fast-flowing planted aquariums making it a perfect candidate for a large river-themed biotope aquarium.
