Bacopa Madagascariensis is another variation of Bacopa that is rarer and more difficult to find readily available in the planted aquarium community. This plant can be grown in both submerged and emeresed condtions with its appearance changing significantly between forms. When grown above water, Bacopa Madagascariensis displays fleshy leaves with serrated edges and a more random growth pattern. In the aquarium, serrated edges are not apparent and the plant grows in an upright pattern.
This form of Bacopa can be considered a more advanced plant and will appreciate more intense lighting along with a complete macro and micro nutrient supply. Bacopa Madagascariensis will tolerate moderately hard water, but will do best in softer waters that are heated. Like other aquarium stem plants, it is important to consistently trim Bacopa to ensure lower levels of the plant receive light. If you are successful in keeping Bacopa Madagascariensis, the plant is highly decorative and adds great appeal and color to the aquarium. Its uniform growth would incorporate well into Dutch-style planted aquariums.
