Bolbitis Heteroclita, sometimes referred to as the Asian Water Fern or Bolbitis Broadleaf, is a beautiful species that is low-maintenance and great for the beginner aquarist and seasoned aquascaper alike. This aquarium plant works well in emersed settings and will also grow in any terrarium, vivarium, paludarium or enclosed container garden as long as sufficient humidity levels are met. Bolbitis Heteroclita features broad, leafy foliage with textured edges and produces new growth from its rhizome. Being an epiphytic plant, Bolbitis Heteroclita is versatile with placement and will self-attach to porous surfaces such as aquascaping stones and aquarium driftwood.
While it isn't required, this fern plant will benefit from CO2 injection in a planted aquarium. Bolbitis enjoys high currents, low to medium lighting and a regular fertilizing routine. Bolbitis is a relatively slow growing genus, but with patience, has the potential to produce lush, leafy bushes of green in your setup when given the correct care and optimal conditions. When planting, Bolbitis should not be buried in aquarium substrate as this can cause the aquatic plant to rot. Once settled in an aquarium tank, Bolbitis Difformis can be propagated easily by separating the aquatic plant gently along the horizontal rhizome.
