Echinodorus Red Diamond is a cultivar of Echinodorus that hybridizes Echinodorus Horemanii Red and Echinodorus Barthii. This aquarium plant is very attractive and produces ruby-red foliage that offers bold contrast to the planted aquarium. Size wise, Echinodorus Red Diamond falls on the conservative side and can be considered a medium size when compared to other variations in the Echinodorus family.
Because of this, Echinodorus Red Diamond works well as a centerpiece or solitary aquarium plant species. We also recommend it for Wabi Kusa display as it can be easily grown in emersed conditions as well. Like other Amazon Swords, Echinodorus Red Diamond is a heavy root feeder and requires nutrient-dense aquarium soil to grow well. Other than this, it is relatively hardy and will tolerate a wide range of aquarium conditions. Medium to high light is preferable and will increase the plant's production of bright, ruby-red leaves.
