Homalomena Sungai is part of a rare family of flowering aquatic plants within the same realm as Bucephalandra and Aridarum. When grown emersed, Homalomena produces softer, fuzzy foliage that slowly transitions to a glossy and waxy state once transitioned to a submerged environment. Because of its rarity, the likelihood of a local fish store carrying this plant is slim to none.

Homalomena species don't require excessive aquarium lighting to thrive as it is slow-growing and excessive lighting can cause algae growth on its leaves, much like Anubias and Buce. Homalomena is generally found in fast-flowing rivers across parts of Asia and South America and can often also be found as a common houseplant.
