This specific Lagenandra is a rarer aquarium plant. Hailing from Sri Lanka, it develops upright slender leaves. The leaves feature a unique dark green base with a glimmer of silver sheen which differentiates it from other Lagenandra. Because of its slow growing nature, Lagenandra Thwitesii tends to remain small for quite some time. A fully grown mother plant will grow about 17 inches in height and is recommended for either the mid or background of an aquarium depending on tank size. In addition, Lagenandra Thwitesii tolerates higher temperatures ranging from 75 to 82 fahrenheit. It is also very suitable for emersed paludarium setups and other forms of jungle-like environments where tropical humidity can be replicated. It can be propagated by cutting the strong creeping rhizome. When grown out of water, this plant will also develop fluorescent red and burgundy coloration.
