Pogostemon Sampsonii is a beautiful aquatic plant species that is still extremely difficult to obtain in the planted aquarium tank hobby and is considered a rarity. Sometimes referred to as Pogostemon Cf. Pumilus, Pogostemon Sampsonii features relatively compact growth that is perfect for achieving bushy sections in the midground of a planted aquarium tank. Pogostemon Sampsonii's leaves are crisp green in coloration and are slightly waved with softly serrated edges. These leaves sit fairly close in proximity to each other and sprout from Pogostemon Sampsonii's thicker stem. Pogostemon Sampsonii can be compared to Limnophila Aromatica Wavy in appearance but differs slightly in color, density, and overall care.
This aquatic stem plant is relatively demanding and will require some experience in keeping aquatic plants to ensure it thrives properly. Factors such as quality aquarium tank LED lighting, CO2 injection from a pressurized system and specialized aquatic plant fertilizer are recommended. On top of this, a consistent and thorough maintenance routine should be followed to ensure water is kept clean within the planted aquarium tank. Propagation for Pogostemon Sampsonii is similar to any other aquatic stem plant and can be done by cutting the stem and replanting it into quality, nutrient-dense aquarium soil.
Like some aquatic stem plants and aquarium plants in general, Pogostemon Sampsonii can be grown in emersed conditions. Sufficient humidity should be provided to ensure it does not dry out and wither. Pogostemon Sampsonii is a unique aquatic plant and would be a wonderful additional to any planted aquarium tank. Alternatively, we'd recommend utilizing it in a pond-style aquarium tank setup!
