Salvinia Cucullata is an interesting floating fern that features cup-like leaves that display a soft green hue. Like other Salvinia species, Salvinia Cucullata is relatively undemanding and easy to keep. When compared to other commonly known floating aquatic plants, Salvinia Cucullata's root system is quite small and will not reach down into the aquarium tank with potential to tangle aquatic stem plants, obstruct decor or aquascape layouts.
Salvinia Cucullata propagates rather quickly and will easily cover the entire surface of a planted aquarium tank if left unmaintained. Because of this, care should be taken to regularly prune this aquarium plant to ensure aquatic plants below are not shaded from essential lighting. Salvinia Cucullata and other aquatic floating plants, in general, also provide your planted aquarium tank with another source of natural water filtration as the roots help absorb excess nutrients in the water keeping the environment clean and safe for fauna. Floaters are also great for providing a valuable refuge for smaller aquatic life and can help skittish fish feel safer, sometimes minimizing jumping risks.
