Cryptocoryne Purpurea is a rare hybrid aquarium plant from Southeast Asia. Crypt Purpurea hails from Borneo and has unique marbling on its leaf blades. Its growth is significantly slower compared to other more common Cryptocoryne species found in the planted aquarium hobby. This Crypt in particular will grow to be about 4” in height, which means it will remain relatively small in size. Depending on the size of the aquarium it is planted in, it can also be used as a foreground aquatic plant. As with all Cryptocorynes, a nutrient-rich substrate is very important, as this species of aquarium plant receives most of its nutrients from  its roots.

Cryptocoryne species are fairly hardy once adapted to the aquarium but do not appreciate being moved around so once a spot is chosen, care should be taken to not disturb the plant and parameters within the tank should not fluctuate too quickly.

Propagation is done by splitting the rhizome or cutting off new growth and replanting.
